First off, I am giving this one 3 1/2 stars because I liked it...but I didn't love it. It just wasn't as funny as it was supposed to be (IMHO). To me, I find it telling when the best, most memorable part of a supposedly "laugh out loud funny" book turns out to be the two beautifully poignant remembrances of the author's friends and neighbors, Donna and Harold. I suppose I might end up in the minority where my thoughts on this book are concerned, but I simply feel that it's too cliched and predictable to actually be the laugh riot it wishes it were.The book is fairly well written but has some editing and formatting issues which need to be addressed.
If you have some time to kill, give it a whirl...and keep a few kleenex around for the Donna and Harold entries, they'll come in handy. If the book were comprised of just those two entries...I'd give it 10 stars.

As a collection of short pieces, this book fulfills what one might expect of it. There are essays which strike the reader (me) as reflective of incidents I have experienced. Others are remote from my life. So one does not get to see the humor or the pathos there. It is a fun book to pick up at the odd moment and see what bat Ball is hitting with. It is certainly worth what I paid for it.
Interestingly written and especially familiar to one from the Lower Peninsula of the state of Michigan. Not to say that you won't find it interesting if you are from elsewhere. This guy has a subtle sense of humor.
A nice collection of writings that were mostly at least amusing. I think he tries a bit to hard at times since a lot of the material isn't as funny as he probably think it is. But it is a quick read and was something different then my normal material so good enough.
This was another book that had good reviews and seemed to be light in topic. I tried it looking for some fun reading. I found my self wondering what the author was writing about(or trying to write about) so I just game up and deleted it from my tablet.
An enjoyable collection of columns and ruminations about life in the not-so-fast lane. I can certainly understand the comparisons with Erma Bombeck - Mike Ball is her male counterpart and that is a good thing! I really enjoyed his commentary on building his dock, buying his pontoon boat and becoming a grandpa - funny and heartfelt. Reading this book has made me want to hunt up his two earlier books.

What I liked This was laugh out loud funny. The articles were short fun and told in such a way that I had tears running down my face at times. Don't miss this read! They're perfect examples of why you shouldn't take life to seriously.
What I didn't like These weren't always articles that I enjoyed (yes, I'm a bit of a prude) but they're well written & I'll bet hubby would love them!

Series What I've Learned... So Far, 3
This is a delightful book and I'm glad I purchased it. It is full of insights and witticisms about daily life and things that we all struggle with, little embarrassments, neurotic thoughts, dealing with people, etc. It also deals with the more difficult things we all deal with in this life. In a funny way it shows how they are all somehow related. I'm very glad I bought this book, and consider it a vital self-help book, and I recommend it to anyone who needs an emotional face-lift.
